River Kayaking in the heart of the Peak District

Kayaking in the Peak District is a cracker of an activity for birthday parties, families and youth groups visiting Derbyshire and the Peak District.

Jump aboard our river kayaks based by the River Derwent in the Peak District. Your group are going to really love this. We’ve got lots of 2 seater kayaks that are purpose built for watery fun.

The River Derwent winds through 66 miles in the heart of the Peak District. You’ll be kayaking through 4.5 miles of Derwent water between Darley Dale and Matlock Bath. This section is split into two parts, as follows

The Upper Section
After meeting at our local centre, your group will be kayaking through some of the finest countryside Derbyshire has to offer. Catch sight of the rolling hills that give way to the rivers many twists and turns.

This section gives a good chance to practice working with your kayak partner before taking on the lower half. Get ready – things are going to get interesting from here on.

The Lower Section
This is where you get to take on the Derwent rapids. Stay sharp through the low grade whitewater as you take on the rapids named Flip Bridge and Town Falls.

Feeling brave? We can ramp up the adrenaline if you like – get it wrong and you’re in with the fishes.

Only a few get to see Matlock from this unique and very pretty viewpoint. While you’re paddling through the Wind Tunnel you get the chance to look up at the famous High Tor Cliff where you can spot the rock climbers.

As you come into Matlock Bath expect to see lots of people being entertained by your antics on the bridges and riverside walkways.

After the activity we’ll take you back to the starting point in our mini bus, where you can get changed and dry!
